EMC special offer 2019 – EMCheck measuring clamp set

Early and easy detection of EMC weak points
- with the EMCheck® measuring clamp set

Equipotential bonding, electromagnetic compatibility, stray currents - these and similar technical terms are increasingly encountered by operators and maintenance staff of industrial networks. Nevertheless, many neglect to check the actual system load. However, checking the equipotential bonding quality is easier than you think!

3 solid reasons to choose the EMCheck® measuring clamp case

#1: EMC guideline recommends testing of equipotential bonding

The user organization PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (short: PI) summarizes reference values and recommendations in a guideline for functional equipotential bonding. Even minor modifications can improve the interference immunity of your systems. As long as the quality of the potential equalization is known.
The PI recommends to check and monitor all measures during running operation.

#2: EMC measurements are part of personnel and immission protection

There are various recommendations, EU directives and regulations for EMC in the field of accident prevention which must be observed:

  • DIN EN 60204: Safety of machinery - Electrical equipment
  • DIN EN 61140: Currents in protective conductors
  • DIN EN 50310: Application of measures for earthing & equipotential bonding in buildings with IT equipment
  • DIN VDE 0100-444: Erection of low-voltage systems
  • 2013/35/EU: European Directive on Electromagnetic Field - Protection of Individuals
  • EMFV: Ordinance for the Protection of Employees against Hazards from Electromagnetic Fields
  • DGUV Regulation 15 (previously BGV B11): Accident Prevention Regulation Electromagnetic Fields

#3: In 2018, 20 percent of all facility malfunctions were due to EMC

According to the Vortex Report, in 2018, EMC problems were detected at every fifth measurement. This means that inadequate equipotential bonding is one of the top 3 factors for system malfunctions and failures in industrial networks.

Simply measure by yourself

If you do not want to rely solely on intuitive statements or your feeling for the quality of the installed shielding and earthing measures in the future, you will have to provide the metrological proof of good equipotential bonding according to DIN EN 50310. The EMCheck® MWMZ II mesh resistance clamp is the suitable tool for this.

  • Measurement of ground loop resistance and ground loop inductance
  • Touch voltage display (for the first time)
  • alerts when a dangerous voltage occurs
  • Storage of up to 300 measurements with time stamp
  • Easy handling due to easy opening of the pliers
  • Good visibility of information through OLED display

Recommended guide values - current load (according to Indu-Sol):

  • Protective equipotential bonding: max. 0.3 Ohm at 2.0 kHz
  • Functional equipotential bonding: max. 0.3 Ohm at 2.0 kHz
  • Shielding of motor cables: max. 0.3 Ohm at 2.0 kHz
  • Shielding of signal cables: max. 0.6 Ohm at 2.0 kHz

The EMCheck® LSMZ I leakage measuring clamp is specially designed for measuring leakage and shielding currents in the frequency band of 50/60 Hz or 5 Hz - 1 kHz. Thanks to the large opening (2.8 cm), cables can also be conveniently measured in places that are difficult to access.

  • Measurement of shield and leakage currents (low and high frequency)
  • Adjustable measuring range (30 µA - 100 A)
  • Localization of insulation faults / unwanted disconnections of residual current circuit breakers
  • All functions of a multimeter
  • Continuous measurements via hold functions (e.g. maximum current)
  • Illuminated display and integrated measured value memory

Recommended guide values - current load (according to Indu-Sol):

  • Protective ground conductor (PE): max. 5 % of phase current
  • Protective equipotential bonding: max. 300 mA (DGUV regulation 3)
  • Functional equipotential bonding: max. 300 mA
  • Shielding of motor cables: max. 300 mA
  • Shielding of signal cables: max. 40 mA
