Ring topology: What are the advantages and disadvantages of this network structure?
In principle, it needs to be observed in a ring topology that all devices in the ring support the protocol (MRP). In our experience with ring-shaped network topologies, the problem occurs relative frequently that a switching does not work or causes problems, which is why we tend to be sceptical towards this network structure. A ring functions best when all devices in the ring are from the same manufacturer and the devices have the same software version.
