PROFINET Diagnostic Agent supports commissioning
During system commissioning, the primary focus is typically on functional and quality tests of individual components. In practice, however, irregularities in PROFINET communication often arise that are intermittent and difficult to reproduce. These can result in unnecessary downtime, added troubleshooting effort, and increased project costs.
The PROFINET Agent Blond from Indu-Sol provides additional diagnostic data where the PLC alone does not deliver sufficient insight. Functioning as an intelligent TAP (Test Access Point), Agent monitors communication between the controller and devices and records anomalies such as telegram gaps on a device-by-device basis. The Agent can be seamlessly integrated into the PLC configuration via a GSDML file. Further the diagnostic data can be accessed directly through the diagnostic buffer or visualised on the HMI if required.
The Agent Blond also offers significant benefits for service and maintenance. Through remote PLC access, service engineers can evaluate communication quality in advance and identify potential error sources. This enables precise preparation prior to on-site deployment. This proactive approach shortens troubleshooting time during both commissioning and services, allowing the Agent to deliver a swift return on investment (ROI). Fig. 1a–c: Agent Blond reports anomalies in PROFINET communication directly to the PLC diagnostic buffer. This creates transparency, supports targeted corrective action, and helps to avoid prolonged commissioning phases.
